Joanna Arai
Inner Wisdom Coaching
My relationship with this work did not begin with a professional decision. It grew out of a long personal encounter with recovery, change, and the deeper patterns of thought and behavior. My early life included experiences of violence and exploitation that shaped a deep understanding of how survival mechanisms form and how difficult it can be to find one’s way back to wholeness.
Over time, the path led me to study approaches that help bring awareness to what operates beneath our everyday reactions, including Root Cause Therapy and other trauma-conscious frameworks. Yet the foundation of what I offer has never been a particular method.
What matters most is the quality of attention brought into the space — honest, grounded, and able to stay with what is present without rushing it toward explanation or resolution.
This work continues to shape me as much as it informs the way I sit with others. It is a living practice.
Background
My professional grounding includes training in Root Cause Therapy through the Centre for Healing, as well as certification in Trauma-Informed Manifesting and Mindfulness. Over the years my work has also been shaped by continued exploration of the nervous system, parts work, somatic awareness, and creative inquiry.
I am currently in training in Astrology for Healers and participating in a year-long priestess program. These studies explore the symbolic and relational dimensions of life, particularly the ways experiences of trauma and the strategies developed to navigate it influence how we relate to ourselves and to the world around us.
Alongside my private coaching practice, I serve as a facilitator within a health and wellness not-for-profit that approaches well-being as something that touches the emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical dimensions of life.
A Perspective from Collaboration
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Joanna across multiple disciplines within the health and wellness space, from food medicine and somatics to supporting individuals recovering from addiction, trauma, chronic illness, and those who have served in the military. These environments require a rare combination of flexibility, emotional presence, and adaptability.
Joanna meets these demands with grace. Her ability to hold space, adapt in real time, remain open to learning, and guide others is matched by her leadership and evolving sense of boundaries.
I trust her services implicitly.”

Beyond the Work
Outside of sessions, life is mostly simple things, while also, an epic adventure!
I spend a lot of time in play: with food as medicine, tending my garden, writing, building altars, and being silly.
Music is the love of my life. Sometimes it’s quiet and reflective. Sometimes it’s Japanese metal. Other days it’s EDM and I’m dancing around the house like it’s the most epic dance club in the world.
I’m also part of a 12-step recovery community, which continues to shape how I practice honesty, take responsibility, and stay in relationship with life on life’s terms.
Humor matters to me too. Life has depth, but it also has absurdity, and remembering that keeps everything human.
